523 PKR members join STAR in Kota Belud

KOTA BELUD : Resurging State Reform Party (STAR) claimed 523 members of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) from Kota Belud had or are quitting the Malaya-based- party for STAR.
STAR divisional head for Kota Belud, Rubin Guribah, who was formerly a Kota Belud's PKR deputy divisional head, said at least six PKR's polling district's committee (JDM) here also had been dissolved.
The JDMs are from Kinasaraban, Taginambur, Sayap, Kiau, Gaur and Melangkap areas, he claimed.
According to Guribah, many in the PKR division also had quit the party, losing confidence in its policy and direction. "Among those local leaders who quit with me were Peter Dasim, Naim Angkat, Tingkun Penimbul, Laimin Linahan, Soidol Dominting, Jason Munggin Limpakan and many others," he said.
He disclosed this at the launching of Tempasuk STAR by STAR state chairman, Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, yesterday at the house of a former PBS leader who had joined STAR, Suwah Buleh.
Meanwhile, STAR state deputy chairman, Daniel John Jambun, in a statement said more are expected to join STAR not only in Kota Belud but from other districts.
In welcoming the 523 into STAR, Jambun said their bold decision indicated that local Sabahans wanted a strong voice from an independent local party. "The people know what they are doing...this augurs well for STAR and Sabah," he said.
Earlier in his launching speech, Dr Jeffrey called on Sabahans to rally behind the United Borneo Alliance (UBA) in order to push for its seven-point Borneo Agenda STAR mooted.
"Our support is growing and this shows that the people want change, and this is the time for change. Our membership in Sabah has reached 160,000 in a matter of less than three months from our state launching on Jan 6, and this is a very good development," he said.
Also present at the well-attended function were former Kadamaian (in the 1960s known as Sorob and later Kebayau) USNO assemblyman, Ismail Gimbad, president of United Sabah Dusun Tindal Organisation (USTO), James Bagah, and Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) supreme council leader, Peter Marajin.

Sabahans unity is the last thing on KL mind, says Jeffrey

RANAU : Sabahans can be rest assured that unity among multi-ethnic Sabahans is the last thing on the mindset of Kuala Lumpur politicians, alleged chairman of the Sabah chapter of State Reform Party (STAR), Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

"Kuala Lumpur would never want us united... They are most afraid if we Sabahans are united because if we are united, they could not eat us," he said in his speech launching STAR's Karanaan state constituency coordinating committee at Kampung Himbaan near here yesterday.

Alleging that Malayan leaders had the penchant of segregating people along racial and religion lines in Peninsular, they now, through their Malayan-based parties extension here have brought in the same political culture to Sabah.

"They did not want to learn from our unity here in Sabah where inter-cultural union is common... they want us disunited so they can lord over us and continue to treat Sabah as fix-deposit.

"But Sabahans now have realised KL political game and they want to take charge of their own fate and future. Sabahans realised that they could not trust outsiders to lead them and that is why more and more people rally under STAR now..." he said at the function which was attended by about 300 people.

Also in attendance yesterday were Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) suprme council member Japiril Suhaimin and USNO protem senior leader Sofea Leong Chau Chu. Ranau STAR is headed by Jalibin Paidi, a teacher, who is poised to be one of STAR candidates at the coming general election.

Dr Jeffrey also shared with the audience how then Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad told him "not to tell Sabahans what they don't know" as the epitome of Kuala Lumpur mindset and fear of people who are aware of and want to assert their rights.

Jeffrey said that was when he was about to be detained by Dr Mahathir under the draconaian Internal Security Act (ISA), allegedly for plotting by force to take Sabah away from the Federation of Malaysia.

Scores of former members of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) also handed in their application forms to Dr Jeffrey to join STAR at the function.
